EKPE FESTIVAL EKID 2012
The 2012 edition of Ekpe Festival Ekid, a unique assemblage of Ekpe cultural groups this side of the country, would hold on December 29, 2012.
According to a statement signed by the chairman of Planning Committee, Prince Assam Joseph Ekanem, the event, which is competitive and entertaining in nature, would feature mouth-watering prizes to be won.
Already, over 15 Ekpe cultural groups in Akwa Ibom and Cross River states have signified interest in the usually colorful festival.
Slated for Government Primary School, Idung Iniang, Eket at 10am prompt, the organizers said the event is aimed at developing our self-worth; encouraging unity; promoting our cultural values and contributing to community building! It is also in support of government’s efforts at promoting tourism as an alternative source of revenue.
Last year, the maiden edition of the unique cultural festival held to the amazement and delight of many who probably thought the much revered Ekpe Society was non-existent in Eket and its environs.
The colorful display of the masquerades helped to dispel some recent negative insinuations about the Ekpe as part of our rich cultural heritage.
The festival, which has the blessing of the traditional institution would have the paramount ruler of Eket, HRM Edidem Nathaniel Oduenyie as the father-of-the-day. Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Culture & Tourism, Dr Clement Bassey as we’ll as the chairman of Eket local government, Chief Aniekan Akpan are expected as the Special Guests of Honour.
